I check the listings EVERY DAY and this dog arrived on Jan 5 and only just now got onto Petharbor?  Anyway, marked as available to adopt. 1/13 kennel 89, not fixed, stray, sched for euth, in other words approved to be euth'd at any time.  I told her that this dog did NOT appear on petharbor until last night.  Alone in an adoption kennel at the moment, but was kenneled with cocker spaniel that got rescued.  No notes about health or behavior.  No weight listed, listed as a medium size dog, but some of the databases list all eskies as medium even when they're actually very small.  Emergency cel for texting only: 909-744-2349, text: Who we are and What dog we can come pick up and When. 1/15 Kim sent out eskie alert 1/15 Mike Y. up in Gilroy, who already previously had an adoption application in with Kim up north, wants to adopt A419038.  Renee (adopted of Evee) says she can tempfoster this dog for 1 week until Mike can drive down to pick up.  Mike also wants to adopt A418901 so we need to find a one-week tempfoster for that one.  I texted the shelter worker asking her to keep both of these dogs safe until LoriP or Kim can contact the shelter to make arrangements. 1/17 Pulled today, left with temp fostermom Renee.  Adopter Mike will pick up this weekend.  Tempname "Fabio". 1/18 Fabio has kennel cough and is being treated. 1/22 Now named Dasaa.  Staying with fostermom Renee until he recovers, then he will be transported to adopter Mike.

Not fixed. No health or behavior notes on file. He is friendly but does not like to be "restrained' " 1/6 "My name is Carli Lutgendorf.  I am the Director of Adoptions at the Escondido Humane Society.  I have an American Eskimo that I need to get into rescue.  He came into our shelter as a stray and has not been claimed by his owner.  He needs some social handling work.  He is good with other dogs and is outwardly friendly towards people but he is highly energetic and doesn't like to be restrained.  Our behavior staff had difficulty with him during the behavior exam.  Please let me know if you would be interested in pulling him into your rescue." As you can imagine it might take a little while for us to do so.  We are currently trying to find a foster and possible trainer so once he is pulled he has somewhere to go. Thank You for your help and understanding.  Lori Pasch" 1/6 Lori comments "No available fosters and if he doesn't like to be restrained hes probably another Shorty with a collar and leash problem making him a runner and potential accident waiting to happen."  She asked me to add him to the chart. 1/6 I emailed Carli to ask how the dog reacts to kennel and collar/leash 1/7 Carli replies: "He is doing fine with being in a kennel.  No problems there and no problems living in the kennel with other dogs.  He also has no problems with leash and collar.  The restraint I was referring to is like a dominance hold over the back.  He struggles and doesn't like this.  We also did the mouth exam and he avoided and didn't like that.   He was quite aroused during the behavior assessment and slow to calm down so the behavior department couldn't get a really good feel for him.  He was also funny around food.  He did not bite or snap at the fake hand but he froze when the fake hand was put in the food bowl.  He was also very stiff and eyed the hand suspiciously.  So I think he needs some work with food.  We feel he would just be better in a experienced Eskimo foster instead of our adoptions kennels." 1/7 Carli tells Blake: "He is not neutered now but we would neuter him before he was pulled into rescue.  He is current on vaccines and would also vaccinate for Rabies and microchip before he leaves.  He is good with other dogs, and is currently housed with several.  I don't know about cats but I am assuming with all the energy that he has he would chase the cats.  I don't think he should be around children because he was highly aroused during the behavior assessment and slow to calm.  He was also hard to dominate and acted funny around food.  He didn't snap or bite the fake hand but he definitely froze and was very stiff when the hand was in his food.  He is just under 18 lbs." 1/13 late night, LoriP reports "I have a foster waiting in the wings for this guy. Now named "Nemo". Not neutered yet. Gives lots of kisses.  Gets along with other dogs, Plays with them, Snuggles/cuddles with other dogs, Wrestles with other dogs if they like it.

An adopter called this rescue group as the go between in order for him to adopt this gorgeous, sweet dog. I met him and his new owner. I confirmed his intake # with the woman from the rescue that pulled him (sorry I forgot the name of the rescue, I was just thrilled he was safe) One less to worry about.  :) "

Facebook discussion Other Facebook discussion 12/31 no health nor behavior issues. weight 22 pounds (they weighed her today) no due-out date 12/31 someone else on FB called shelter and was told this dog is rescue-only.  I wonder what the shelter staff failed to tell me! 12/31 Susan Ashley Leavell of Ruff Roads Rescue wants to adopt the dog for herself or her mother, she wants someone else to pull the dog and bring it to her, she contacted us to do it but declined to pay any adoption fees (?!).  I'm not sure what her story is but she said she rescues without ever going out; other people bring dogs to her.  Perhaps this means she is a shut-in.  No one else has (yet) agreed to pull the dog and bring it to her for free either.  Stacy Bonner McIlveen posts that there is some other rescue now looking into rescuing the dog. 1/1 Listing is down. 1/2 Staff says the dog is still there.  The Petharbor listing vanished because the dog is for Rescue only, no public adoption.  Only for rescue due to health reason. The reason is she has numerous mammary masses that need biopsies.    I have deleted our HB post on the thread that said we could foster, because Susan is on there trying to get someone to pull it for her privately, plus there's an out-of-state woman offering to foster, and this situation is too messy for us to look connected to it.  There are a number of people working on the dog so we will let them work it out. 1/2 Susan of Ruff Roads posted on Facebook that she has Snowball.  We will need to phone the shelter to confirm. 1/4 Confirmation of Snowball's rescue, to be personally adopted by Susan - photo

If not claimed by owner by Dec. 21st they will be available on Dec. 22nd. 12/21 The shelter emailed HB national and said: "We have two Eskimos here a bonded pair, 9 and 10 years old. The 10 year old female is friendly and seems in good health. The 9 year old male has an infected tooth and needs a dental.  Please let us know if you can exit." 12/22 eskie alert sent out 12/23 someone ran an ad on craigslist offering to donate expenses to whoever pulls these dogs. I don't know whether they intended to include Puppy's dental & extractions. 12/23 ran fosterhome ad ImperialPets.  Have had one inquiry but they didn't come through. 12/27 Avail starting Dec 28.  One IP on record, "an individual not a rescue." 1/2 Ryan plans to pull these doggies tomorrow for ERU 1/3 ERU rescued. "More severe health problems than originally reported.  On the way to vet now.  Will send more info." 1/4 Ryan reports these dogs started their stay at the shelter in decent condition but were rescued with pneumonia and shelter vet records show they'd been receiving 1/4 the antibiotic dose they should've.  Puppy is in serious condition, may require up to $10,000 in costs in hospitalization, but may not pull through due to breathing problems.  Fefilee's pneumonia isn't as bad.  Ryan cautions dealing with this shelter as the vet "care" is very poor.  Donations/sponsors needed http://www.eskierescuers.org 1/5 Puppy died this morning.  Arrived at the shelter in decent health except for dental, caught the dreaded 2011 So-Cal Shelter Pneumonia, was undertreated by the shelter veterinary staff, and has died needlessly.  Fefilee is holding steady. From Ryan of ERU: "This particular strain of pneumonia is very strange.  It doesn't cause a fever at all, which can lead to mis-diagnosis.  I also noticed that this bacterial pneumonia is characterized by a very foul smelling discharge when the cough is productive.  The gunk they cough up carries an indescribable foul odor.  Unfortunately this pneumonia can sometimes only be seen with chest X-Rays.  It requires aggressive antibiotic therapy and daily round-the-clock monitoring.  Watch out for these signs because it is definitely going through multiple shelter facilities and the vet staff is not catching it and is not effectively treating it."

"we have an interest in him." I asked about their shelter, which is NO KILL, and Melissa says their dogs are probably treated better than their own personal dogs. They have cots in the kennels, a play yard, and a lot of volunteers. Pet Project is their own volunteer organization, and Melissa says their shelter is probably one of the best anywhere. "It's a happy place." Made my heart happy to hear all of this. 12/13 LoriP adds "Nobody is a No Kill no matter what they tell you!  If space becomes an issue they will start to kill the doggies that have been their the longest.
