| NOTES ABOUT CONTACTING ANIMAL SHELTERS: Sometimes when a listing disappears it doesn't mean the dog was adopted -- sometimes it means the dog is still at the shelter but having health or behavior problems. Often a listing will stay in the "stray-hold" category long after the dog has become available for public adoption. Shelters do not update their listings correctly or consistently. What to ask shelter, if not already listed in the dog's info: - Age? - Is the dog on strayhold? Or available for public adoption? Or only available for Rescue? If on strayhold, when available to adopt? If owner surrender, does the file say why? If only available to Rescue organizations, why? - Neutered, Spayed, or No? Any other Health or Behavior notes on the file? - Kenneled alone, or kenneled with other dogs? (This reveals whether the dog gets along with other dogs.) - Weight? If weight not known, general size? - Is there a "Review" date or a "Due Out" date? Is it possible this dog might be euthanized soon? -. If the dog is not listed any more, was it Adopted, Rescued, Euthanized, or Other? If euth, was it euth for Space, Health Issues, or Behavior Issues? - If there's no photo, tell them there is no photo, and ask them how soon can they add a photo. If you know of a Facebook thread that discusses a specific dog, provide the link on the dog's info. |
